4 March 2015 #FeaturedTeachers hosted by @FluencyMC for WIZIQ
This free professional development webinar by IB Educator, author, and TEDx organizer, Tosca Killoran is for all teachers who wish to enhance their knowledge and understanding of social media in education. The live webinar is one-hour long and takes place on March 4, 2015 at UTC. Slides and a video recording of this session will be available to all who enroll. With the growing ubiquity of social media there has been no other time in history when so many people have so easily shared so much with so many. This has created a distinct shift in our social landscape as it redefines how educators communicate and choose to connect with others in our field. As this inevitable merger between our physical and digital lives progresses, various challenges become apparent. One of these is the friction between the fear of the hidden dangers of social media and the desire to leverage these tools for our learners. In this session, Tosca looks at the current climate of social media, how it relates to us as educators, how to develop a social media policy/philosophy and the strengths and limitations of such tools as, Twitter, Vine, Line, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and more.

September 2014 GrowthMindset & Social Responsibility eBooks now available for Apple!
Well, for the past few months, many of our #EDchampions have been offering kind words about the launch of our 11 print books, but the one thing that so many of you kept asking us was: “When will your eBooks be available for Apple?”
Well, you asked and we listened, and that time is Now my friend!
If you forgot what our books are about, here’s a quick synopsis:
As great conversation starters about values, character and social responsibility, our books help kids develop mindfulness, a growth mindset, empathy and 21st century skills and attitudes. Created by IB teachers, this is an ideal resource for teachers, librarians, home-schoolers and parents, especially for those teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile. The series of books also tackles important and extremely relevant issues that many kids often face; these include bullying, improving the environment or choosing healthy food options.

Character Education is the Focus of New Book SeriesED-ucation Publishing, a social enterprise that focuses on key values like innovative learning, problem solving, student empowerment and citizenship, has just announced the release of a 10-book series that focuses on character education. The first eBook, titled “Robbie and the Bully-bot,” will be available for free on Amazon for 72 hours, beginning on April 1. The print books will be available 3 days to a week after each additional eBook is released.
The new book series is an ideal resource for teachers, librarians, home-schoolers and parents, especially for those teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Learner Profile. It helps children and youth learn about important character traits like being honest, having integrity, showing respect, being open-minded to new ideas, and being empathetic, compassionate and caring citizens. In addition to focusing on behavior attributes and attitudes, the series of books also tackles important and extremely relevant issues that many kids often face; these include bullying, improving the environment, choosing healthy food options, how to be more successful as a learner, dealing with struggles when learning a new language, or being the new student. Although the books address serious topics and focus on themes like character development, emotional intelligence, social responsibility and a growth mindset, the characters and story lines are so interesting and relatable, kids and adults alike will find reading the stories engaging and enjoyable. Unfortunately, as most parents and teachers know, bullying is a huge concern for kids and youth worldwide. From physical and emotional bullying to cyber bullying that takes place online, adults need to do what they can to make sure kids are safe. In “Robbie and the Bully-bot,” Robbie experiences being bullied—learning strategies along the way to help him deal with the situation. In addition to standing up for himself, Robbie learns the importance of being honest, principled and empathetic. By the end of the story, Robbie understands that the bully often needs help too. ED-ucation Publishing Co-founders and authors, Tosca Killoran and Jeff Hoffart, are experienced IB International teachers, TEDxYouth organizers, social entrepreneurs, and are passionate about driving education forward. “We invite you to join our community and become an ED Champion. As an ED Champion, you will be the first to know about sweet deals we offer; for example, the other nine eBooks through Amazon will be available for 50 percent for the week of their launch,” Jeff Hoffart said. Anyone who would like to learn more about the series of 10 books, including their titles, themes and release dates, is welcome to visit ED-ucation Publishing’s website; there, they can also learn more about the authors as well as read testimonials of the books from educators like Kath Murdoch or organizations like Meatless Mondays.
