Reviews

As an educator involved in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), I can see this book being useful in professional development or with students preparing for the PYP Exhibition. As a professional development resource, this book simply points out how to become knowledgeable. It would be a fantastic resource for introducing or reviewing the five essential elements of the PYP Curriculum model as a professional development activity. For students beginning the PYP Exhibition, this book would be useful to review the importance of using all essential elements gained through their PYP education to begin their Exhibition projects.

-Katryna Jacober, IB Teacher and IB PYP Coordinator

At last, the authors have shared the secret formula and soon everyone will be growing their own giant brain of doom. With great illustrations of a "growing brain" and the recipe of a curriculum that promotes expanding minds, all schools can learn the secrets to provide an educational experience that allows all students to become knowledgeable. With this resource, everyone will know How to Grow a Giant Brain (of doom!).

-Chad Hyatt, Curriculum Coach for the district-wide implementation of PYP and MYP in the Metropolitan School District of Washington Township in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Chad is also a member of the IB Educator Network.

This series fills a huge gap that exists in character education in our schools. We all want our world to be a better place and these simple yet sage lessons create citizens of the 21st century that will create a brighter future for us all.

-Michael Ross, Sustainability, Business and Outdoor Educator, Kelowna BC.

I love what I read and so did my six-year-old son. The illustrations are vivid and the story is exciting and relevant to what kids experience. Instead of hitting them with a preachy lesson on character, the story allow kids to discover the theme slowly through connecting with the character and reflecting on the actions afterward.

-John T. Spencer, Creator of Education ReThink, World renowned workshop leader, Education Philosopher

To thrive in a constantly changing world, today's students need to develop the mindset and skills to become tomorrow's changemakers. ED-ucation Publishing’s books will give them a great start.

-Charles Tsai, Founder of Social Creatives, Director of Learning networks for Ashoka Canada, former reporter and producer for CNN, writes and reports on social innovation for Huffington Post

This series is a valuable and unique addition to any teacher’s resource collection. Each book focuses on a specific character trait - perfectly aligned with the IBO PYP Learner Profile attributes but equally useful for character education in any school with any curriculum. The stories and their characters are very accessible for independent reading, paired / guided reading, and as teacher readalouds. The delightful illustrations further enhance the key ideas and provide lots of detail for students to discover as they browse. The individual style of this series reflects the character of their authors and will be very appealing to teachers and students alike.

-Dr. Lesley F. Snowball (CertEd, DipEd, MPhil, PhD) has been an educator for 35 years, was co-author of the original PYP framework and has published extensively, both independently and for Pearson Education. She is currently Director of Putting it into Practice, providing training and materials support to schools worldwide.
