A is for Action: The ABCs of Taking Action
This children's book helps students improve their self-esteem (believing that they can, in fact, make a difference), become more confident in their abilities to problem-solve, and inspires them to change the world for the better, empowering them to tackle today’s issues, as well as tomorrow’s issues.
Our book was created as a result of peer-reviewed research (published in the IB Journal of Teaching Practice on February 28, 2013), includes an online component, featuring: curriculum resources, extension activities, students showing the book’s lessons in practice, and videos; It also includes worksheets and suggested Action organizations. REVIEWS of A is for Action
Not only did I love this book, so too did our Grade 5 students as they prepared for their PYP Exhibition. We have now stocked classroom libraries from Grades 1 through 5 with multiple copies of this wonderful resource. Students were able to make more concrete connections with this hard to grasp notion of ACTION. Parents were also impressed and allowed them to continue the discussion with their children. We are very excited as an IB World School to have access to such wonderful resources, not to mention ED-ucation Publishing's fabulous resources on values and citizenship!

A is for Action is the most exciting new book that I have seen in years. Hoffart and Killoran have a great product that was influenced by their own work as teacher researchers. Children and educators all over the world will rejoice at this great tool for breaking down the thinking, processes, and habits of mind necessary for taking action and making a difference in the world. IB educators, in particular, will love the connection to inquiry, reflection and the attitudes necessary for increasing student agency. I will be using this resource for years!

We LOVE Canada and the products and ideas that come from our neighbors there and especially love this new book. While our friend Inno Nagara got the jump on the whole A to Z thing with his board book A is for Activist, our new long-distance friends Jeff Hoffart & Tosca Killoran have taken A to Z to the next step with detailed information about HOW to take action! Infants raised on A is for Activist will be chomping on their rattles wondering HOW to change the world and will be fully armed (in a nonviolent way of course) with this great how-to book. Manga-style illustrations will engage kids immediately and the prose will keep them rhyming their way to world transformation.

This book is fantastic! It really helps take teacher and students through the process of taking action and making a positive change in the world. I can not wait to read this to my students and help them choose something they are passionate about to take real action. I also want to share it with my niece and nephew so they can begin their journey into making a difference in our world! Excellent resource for any classroom, especially International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) classrooms and teachers facilitating The PYP Exhibition. I really enjoyed the use of the IB Learner Profile attributes and the PYP attitudes throughout the book. Really well written! I can not wait for more from these authors!

This book serves a critical purpose in the education of every child, starting at the youngest age group. The concept of service and action builds empathy and gives insight into the broader human condition. Future leaders need this capacity in order to see beyond the confines of their own reality. The value of this book in guiding the process of building future compassionate global leadership is enormous.
